My Nephew asked me “Aunt Judith will you make me a song?” I said, “Sure what do you want it to say, and what are your favorite scriptures?” He sent me a text message that included the following information, his story. I used this to write the lyrics for “Come Find Me (Logan’s Song).”
“Well first my parents divorced at a young age. Then I got moved from a small town to a big city where I tried to fit in. Ended up getting in a lot of trouble from trying to fit in. Taught me how to fight. And through that fighting I got caught up in the gang life. Being in a gang I had to do way more violent activity.
I started losing friends and picked up drug habits through being involved in the gang life. It took me to lose a select few of friends to really open my eyes to my higher power as in God and to get sober. Being sober has opened my eyes a lot more to seeing bigger and better opportunities I have in life. Especially being raised in a church and knowing about God….”
He wanted me to use these scriptures from the King James Version:
1 Corinthians 13:11 – “When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.”
Psalm 23 – “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.”
The focus group that helps me by previewing the music I produce loved this song. I didn’t expect the reaction I got because the story is so personal to Logan. However, as it took these music lovers to point out, the song is very relatable to a larger audience with it’s message of encouragement. We all know someone who is trapped in the wrong life style but is crying to get out. I hope this song is indeed a message of hope for the masses and they hear the cry of God to “Come Find Me.”
