Backstory
Funky Animals | Story Behind Song
This is the story about how the song “Funky Animals” was born. My nephew (9 at the time) was visiting us from Michigan. I was showing him some of my latest music production tools. He fell in love with the scratch track I created, that is at the beginning of the song.
Then he said, “Oh Aunt Judith please write me a song like you did for mom (see “Ride“). I asked, “Well what do you want your song to be about?” He said, “How about animals!” Then I asked him some more questions such as, “Why do you like animals? What is it about them you want in a song?”
He rattled off some things like:
– I love my hamster Snowball.
– Going to the zoo, feeding the Giraffes, and watching them run.
– The monkeys, they’re funny, and sometimes they play with each other’s tails.
