Description
Steppin’ In – from the Album “Bigger Than Me,” is inspired by the testimony of a young boy named Eli at my home church during his baptism. His faith and passion were so strong the tender moment brought me to tears. This led me to write a faith anthem of surrendering to God’s calling. Has beautiful angelic high vocals on the bridge. This epically dynamic, 2020’s era song features: french horns, driving drums, synth swirls and haunting power ballad cinematic vibe. The instrumental mix would be a great background for a climatic, powerful, scene.

Lyrics
Verse 1
Heard you call me – in the night alone
Jordan’s calling – from the seat of your throne
Preacher’s waiting
In faith I pledge – so I am going down
To the waters edge, I’m steppin’ . . .
Chorus 1
In – submerse my soul healing waters cover me
I’m stepping in – I’m not ashamed – In You I believe
I surrender all – my future and my life
Fire from heaven baptize me oh Lord
I’m stepping in
Verse 2
Mighty God – Creator of my life
Make me one with the body of Christ
I’ll wait for You
Guide me I pray – here I am Lord
Use me have Your way , I’m steppin’ . . .
Chorus 2
In – submerse my soul healing waters cover me
I’m stepping in – I’m not afraid – In You I believe
I surrender all – my future and my life
Fire from heaven baptize me oh Lord
I’m stepping in
Bridge
Fire from heaven fall on me
Fire from heaven fall on me (Optional very high ooo)
I’m steppin’ . . .
Chorus 3
In – (submerse my soul) healing waters cover me

Backstory
Steppin’ In | Story Behind the Song
From the testimony of a little boy just before he was baptized that reduced me to humble tears. It was so powerful and spoke words of a wise old man.Â
Eli’s Baptism
When my friends son decided to get baptized he shocked all of us with his testimony. He read the words from his handwriting telling of how he heard God call him in the dark while he was alone. In addition, he shared how he no longer fights with his siblings as much. But then Eli shared how he will wait on God to show him what God want’s him to do with his life. In the last sentences he asked God to make him one of the body of Christ.
I know grown-ups that do not exhibit that depth of faith Eli shared in his testimony. Anybody who knows me knows I am very tenderhearted when people are baptized, especially children. Consequently, I told his parents, there is a song in all of this. This is how Eli’s song was born.
As a result, this song, a pure testimony from a child, has an Anointing on it. With words like “Fire from heaven baptize me oh Lord,” I believe God honors that child-like faith we all need to have. I am incredibly humbled God would use me to be part of Eli’s story and to write/produce this powerful, moving song. Are you ready to “Step In.”
Production Notes
People can say what they want about this but, there is a phrase in outro of the song where there are three parts of harmony. I did the back-ups myself and I know I only recorded two parts. When I go back to the raw file there are only two voices but in the released recording everyone I point this out to hears three! Did I capture and Angel singing along with us on the final production of this song? I believe I did.
At the end, the percussion sounds like dripping drops of water which also was not planned. If you have ever heard Jim Caviezel share how during filming “The Passion of The Christ,” the production took a supernatural direction and a divine power seemed to be doing the directing. Well, that happened with this song. I feel so blessed to be used by God in such a manner for such a time as this.
