Funky Old School | Story Behind Song

When I was learning audio production the teacher had us create a song from scratch using the elements of Logic Pro X.  Because I learn better by creating something on my own I wanted to “do my own thing.” Likewise, I really did not want to use the material he provided. For this reason I ventured out on my own, by using what Logic Pro provided. Here is the scoop on Funky Old School | Story Behind Song

I started blending, mixing, and playing with all the amazing loops in the DAW. First I built the drum track and then started adding other instruments. I played a few using a keyboard controller to add depth to the song.

When I listen to “Funky Old School” it makes me think of that Funkadelic fusion that was so popular in the 70’s. Bands like P-Funk and Earth, Wind and Fire inspired the sound with some contemporary guitar licks sprinkled in for a modern ambient vibe. It kind-of has a Toby Mac vibe to it as well, similar to his funky song “Diverse City,”

Now, every person I have played this song for loves it. It is nostalgic ear candy that helps people get their groove on! It would be great in a movie showcasing the 70’s period. You can also just play it at your next party. Get everybody on the floor to do the “Electric Slide” or “Cupid Shuffle.”

Regardless, of how you get your groove on. Let this song be a reminder that when things get tense. There is always a way to ease the pressure (or at least transport to the 70’s).

Ride (Jen’s Song) | Story Behind Song

Ride by Judith Baker

Ride” is called “Jen’s Song” as well when our family talks about the song. I was showing my sister, an avid bicyclist, a new tool I found to create music. It is basically an app that has royalty free loops. Seems like I can use it to customize music to my hearts content! As a result, my excitement peaked her interest. So she asked me to play some of the samples. Because she loves techno-dance music , I was not surprised when a loop named “disco” caught her attention. Surprisingly, the music didn’t sound very disco. Rather it was more techno, plucky and fun. Clearly the same mood and feel she likes to listen to.

For Those Who Would Rather Be Out Riding

Obviously my sister loves being outdoors. Undeniably she would rather be outside riding. She works in a hospital so bike riding is her way to escape the feeling of being trapped inside. Probably like most of us, she shared her preferences for what helps her escape the daily grind.

First of all, she can hear the birds sing. In addition, she can watch the sun rise or set while she rides. Because she loves trees, she enjoys riding past all the leaves as they dance in the wind. Furthermore, the feeling of the wind on her face is exhilarating. As a result this experience makes her feel free. Most noteworthy, she feels closer to God when she is riding out in nature. It calls her. Admittedly her enthusiasm made me want to hop on a bike and ride. So I made some notes about what she said.

Ride is Born

In conclusion, this is how “Ride” was born. This fun and uplifting techno-dance tune makes you feel free. Besides, even if you aren’t into bike riding, “Ride” is worth a listen. After all who doesn’t what to have a moment where they feel like they can grab life by the handlebars.

“Ride (Jen’s Song)” Lyrics

(Verse 1)
Trapped inside Nature is calling
Telling me ride away
Find freedom
In the miles along the way
I can’t wait Feel the wind on my face

(Pre-Chorus)
It’s time to ride, ride

(Chorus 1)
Come on let’s ride, ride
So we can fly, fly
And soar so high, high
It’s time to ride Ride, ride

(Verse 2)
Birds sing out to me
The work of your hands
Leaves dance in the trees
Nature’s awake
I forget to worry
Sunrise’s a blaze
Over fields of green

(Pre-Chorus)
It’s time to ride, ride

(Chorus 2)
Come on let’s ride, ride
So we can fly, fly
And soar so high
It’s time to ride (on wings of eagles)
Ride, ride, Ride, ride, Ride, ride

(Bridge)
Down the hill
Grabbing life
By the handlebars

(Chorus 3)
Oh-ho ride, ride
Come on let’s ride, ride
So we can fly, fly
And soar so high, high
It’s time to ride (on wings of eagles)
Yea, yea, yeah

(End Tag)
Ride, Ride
Come on and ride, ride
It’s time to ride
So we can fly

(Ride, Ride)
Oo-oo-oo-ho
(Ride Ride)
Come On!
