Story Behind Song
The inspiration for “Suzanna’s Song” if based on a true event. Suzanna is the daughter of Steve and Stefanie Coburn Fuller. Stefanie is featured on “Our Song.” You could say Suzanna is the reason Stefanie and I are sisters in ministry and life for that matter. When Stefanie was expecting, she had unplanned complications.
Obedience Leads to a Life Long – Very Special Friendship
The Lord compelled me to go and visit her while she was in the hospital. I didn’t know Stefanie yet. I even wondered how God needed me to visit because Stefanie was already surrounded with family and friends. But as I say “God had a plan.” I was obedient and my life will never be the same. The Lord blessed me with a wonderful friend.
Forty days later Suzanna was born. Yes, she was premature, tiny, and fragile but she was healthy and God was faithful! I know it’s not my story but as a tribute to a God that “Still Makes a Way” and to other parents that have had rough times “Suzanna’s Song” was born. God still performs miracles and He is truly with us every step of the way.

Stefanie and Judith trade off nailing those high Soprano notes. Can you tell who is singing what?
Story Behind Song
What can I say about Stefanie! Where do I start? I wanted to use a song that we have done several times but I felt that God had a plan for this CD and had His own songs He wanted laid on the tracks. I asked the Lord to give us a song and to my surprise my fabulous husband co-wrote it with me.
Drawing lyrics from the Bible identifying God as “King of Kings, and Lord of Lords, I wanted a song that gave God Praise and Thanks for all He has done in my life. Consequently, completing the very last song on the project, my 2nd album, but 1st album of all original, phew, a life long dream is now completed.
I took Stefanie to the studio and check this out – we all know “7” is God’s number for completion. Consequently, this project is finished! This amazing duet is the last track, the last song written, and the last track to be recorded. When I arrived to pick up Stefanie my speedometer was on all 7’s! It was a confirmation for me that this project had God’s blessing as we neared completion. God speaks to us in so many ways if we just pay attention.
Production Notes
We got to the studio and she vocals blending beautifully. The song superseded my expectations. The first time I heard it I cried because I was so humbled at what God had done. To hear Stefanie’s angelic voice blending with mine it was a dream come true. Stefanie asked, “Was it that bad?” Doug laughed because he knew what was going on. This song is such a blessing to me, I still cry when I have a quiet moment to listen to it and meditate on the fact that I wouldn’t even be here if it weren’t for God and His mercy. All the Glory belongs to Him.
Let me take a moment and share why I choose Doug to produce the music on In Spirit and Truth. We met in college back in the day as they say. Doug was writing original music and completing arrangements for our college performances so I knew he was very talented. Further, I knew we could work together and create something amazing to the Glory of God. To put it another way Doug could put into music what I heard in my head. They only person I have been able to work with who can do this better is me, but I am not a producer. At least not yet, my husband keeps encouraging me to learn the craft. Who knows I just may produce my next album.

Story Behind Song
I’ll never forget the first time I heard Bob Carlisle’s song “Butterfly Kisses.” Don’t ever ask me to sing it because I have a hard time getting through the song without tearing up. I though, “What a great song!” Then I had an idea, why not use the talent God gives us to leave something unique and memorable behind for your children, and their children, and so on. I was inspired and wrote “Judith’s Lullaby.” I wanted a simple song for my children to remember their ole mom by.
Precious Moments
My daughter Zoey was three and couldn’t say “Judith’s Lullaby.” My son was just a toddler. Zoey simplified it and referred to the song as “Mama’s Song.” So, it became “Mama’s Song (Judith’s Lullaby).”
At night she would grin and say “Sing Mama’s Song.” Those were such precious times. I am so grateful, now that they are all grown up that I listened to the nudge from God to write this song. “Mama’s Song,” is one of my favorites.
Production Notes
I recorded Zoey praying on a cassette tape, not knowing when or how I would ever be able to afford producing the song or an album for that matter.
By the time I was able to record this song my Zoey is a pre-teen. She was so embarrassed by her little prayer and wanted nothing to do with singing on the song. I thank God He gave me the insight to record her praying years ago. I insisted the prayer be included in the song even though the tape had warped over the years. My producer and I struggled to clean it up the best we could.
The best treat is my very own son, who is now an uber, sanguine, extroverted, comedian and actor, sings the child’s voice on the track. He was still young enough that mom couldn’t embarrass him. To God be the Glory! I am so grateful for my Zoey and Sergio John! Years later I would sing this at my nephew Levi’s baby dedication. A great song is always timeless!

Breaking Free | Story Behind Song
This song wasn’t supposed to be on “In Spirit and Truth.” I had just completed Beth Moore’s Bible Study “Breaking Free” where she focused on Isaiah, chapter 61. Knowing all to well the emptiness of bondage, Beth drove home key points showing how in God there is freedom. The insights and precepts I learned moved me so much that God inspired me. I replaced a song that didn’t fit the theme of “In Spirit and Truth.” This is what inspired Breaking Free | Story Behind Song
Isaiah 61:1-4 (my favorite verse in the Word)
The Year of the Lord’s Favor (Jubilee)

In Spirit and Truth | Story Behind Song
Inspired from a challenge here is the In Spirit and Truth | Story Behind Song. While I was a Choir member and attended Boise First Church of the Nazarene, in Boise, Idaho. Our Music Minister, Royce Mitchell (Liberty Quartet Founder) challenged each of us as choir members. He shared John 4:23-24.
Royce impressed upon me that our job is worshiping with everything we have, not just showing up and going through the motions of being in a choir or on a praise team. Every choir member adds to worship and every choir member is a worship leader.
“But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshipers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.” John 4:23-24 (King James Version).
Worship or Going Thru the Motions
It’s no secret I have been a singer all my life. According to my mother, I performed professionally at the ripe old age of four. At the age of 33, I believe the Lord called me to use my gifts and talents to serve Him. Largely, that is how the music for his project was born. I began writing songs for the Lord that are now on this project. I continue to have a burning desire to honor the Lord in this manner. Consequently, this is more than an “x” in a box, or crossing off an item from my to-do list. To put it another way, Worship is now a way of life, a lifestyle for me. All thanks to Royce and this challenge. I have never looked at how I worship the Lord the same.
